John's leg

So life the last week has been really interesting for our family. On the the 17th John said his leg was angry and red just before we went to bed. Then on Tuesday he was at work and said that he almost couldn't walk so he went to the doctor. She gave him some antibiotics and told him to go home and keep his leg us. She also told him to come back on Wed if it was any worse. Guess what it was worse. Went to the doctor on Wednesday and she gave him a shot and told him to come back on Thursday. Went on Thursday and they sent him for an ultra sound on his leg and double his pills. Come back on Friday. On Friday it was still worse so the doctor said to go to the ER and get an iv antibiotic treatment. John spent all Friday night and most of Saturday in the ER. They gave him 2 treatments of antiboitics and then sent us home with a picc line so we could keep up the treatments at home. His infection went from his ankle to his knee and almost all the way around his leg. It was pretty scary for me. The home health nurse came on Saturday and showed me how to do the iv but she would be back in the morning. She came back on Sunday morning and evening. On Sunday it finally started looking better. I was pretty excited about that. On Monday morning the nurse came and watched me to the iv and told me that I could take care of John on my own. So now I am giving him his iv in his picc line every 12 hours. He will be off work all week. He has to go back to the doctor and Friday to determine what will be the next course of action (oral anitbioics or what else needs to be done.) I sure hope that it is totally cleared up by then. This is the infection on Tuesday. Much much better but we still have a long ways to go.
John's picc line. Must be very careful to keep it dry and clean. The tube goes into his chest almost to his heart.
Better picture of the infection. Ain't it pretty.

  1. That is awful!! I hope he gets better soon! It is amazing how fast those pesky infections can turn really, really bad.
